Abuja — Peugeot Automobile Nigerian (PAN) Limited, Kaduna, will from next year stop running on generator when power situation in the country improves, Vice president Goodluck Jonathan has said.
He said this yesterday in Kaduna at the commissioning of the Peugeot 307 Sedan at the premises of PAN.
He said federal government plans to stimulate the manufacturing sector by improving power supply in the country.
He said that government is committed to its campaign on the made- in - Nigerian products, saying that government has no choice than to encourage industries in the country, "if our hope for vision 2020 will be realized."
He commended PAN for producing made-in-Nigerian cars.
According to him, it is only by patronizing made-in-Nigerian goods that the manufacturing sector can be encouraged. "Without that, we will be importing goods and we will not be creating jobs for our people," he said.
Earlier, Governor Namadi Sambo of Kaduna state decried the high number of moribund industries in the state.
"As the industrial hub of the nation, we are saddened with this uncomfortable development and we are working round the clock to ensure the revival of these industries", he said.
He said that the state government is trying to generate electricity and to provide necessary amenities to ensure rapid industrialization of the state.
The governor said that his administration is determined to resuscitate the ailing industries not only to provide employment for the people but in order to increase the state's revenue earnings.
