Somalia: Heavy Fighting Kills 10, Wounds More Others in North Mogadishu

Somalia — At least 10 people have been killed and more others wounded after heavy fighting between the transitional government forces backing by the AU troops (AMISOM) and the Islamist fighters broke out in the north of the Somali capital Mogadishu, official and witnesses said on Tuesday.

Reports say that the clashes continued at Abdul Azis and Shibis districts in the north of the capital and parts of Hodan and Daynile districts, bases for both rival forces killing more.

Reports say that both sides exchanged heavy weapons during the war.

Sheik Mohamed Osman Arus, the spokesman of Hizbul Islam Organization for the operations told Shabelle radio that the fighting started as their positions attacked adding that they had defended from the allied troops.

He said they inflicted more casualties to the others side of the fighting.

Aden Mohamed kalmoy, the spokesman of the military forces of the transitional government held press conference in Mogadishu and said that the clashes begun as their troops were attacked pointing out that they defended from the Islamist fighters adding they took over more military bases from the fighters against them.

On the other hand fighting between the Islamist forces and allied troops broke out in parts of Hodan and Daynile districts in the capital specially the areas around Kulliyadda Jalle Sia'ad, a base for the AMISOM troops in the capital.

Dahir Ali Farey, a government officer involving the fighting told Shabelle radio that they reached near parts of Hodan and Daynile districts saying that they defended from the Islamist forces pointing out that they were greatly welcomed by the residents in the area where he said that they reached today.

Most of the people died and wounded in the fighting were civilians and the clashes follow other unlimited fighting between the Islamist fighters and the government troops AMISOM.
