Zambia: Edward Mumbi Dares Sata

FORMER Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general Edward Mumbi says he has not received summons in the case in which PF leader Michael Sata has sued him for defamation.

Mr Mumbi said yesterday in an interview that it was interesting to read in the media yesterday that Mr Sata had chosen to take him to court.

He said that although he was summoned through the media, his lawyers had not received any summons to that effect.

"I am happy that Mr Sata has chosen to go to court to resolve issues with me. And I am ready to meet him in court because I have a lot of arsenals," he said.

He said that he did not know why Mr Sata had not served him with summons even when his lawyers Eric Silwamba and Company had informed Mr Sata's lawyers Pikiti and Company that they were representing him.

He said that he instructed his lawyers to get in touch with Mr Sata's lawyers after he said that he would sue him during campaigns in the Kasama Central by-elections.

Mr Mumbi said since Mr Sata had decided to go to court, he should not change his position because the matter should be taken to its logical conclusion.

He said it was interesting that Mr Sata decided to go to the same courts that he had been insulting time and again.

Mr Mumbi said that if Mr Sata wanted an injunction to restrain him from talking about him, he would also obtain a similar injunction to restrain the opposition leader from talking about Republican President Rupiah Banda and the MMD.
