Kampala — UGANDANS intending to travel to Angola for the 2010 African Cup of Nations will not have to travel to Tanzania for visas following the opening of the Angolan embassy in Kampala.

The Angolan ambassador in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Prof. Ambrosio Lukoki, said the embassy was a step in consolidating the relationship between Uganda and Angola.

The ambassador was addressing Angolans and diplomats accredited to Uganda at the 34th Independence Day celebrations at Kampala Serena Hotel on Sunday.

Lukoki said Angola would continue collaborating with Uganda in addressing insecurity in the Great Lakes region.

This is the first time Angola is celebrating its national day in Uganda since it attained independence on November 11, 1975.

Lukoki said the opening of an embassy in Kampala was due to the increased number of Angolans who trade with Ugandans.

Foreign Affairs permanent secretary Ambassador James Mugume hailed Angola for opening a diplomatic mission in Kampala.

There are at least 20 Angolans in Uganda, most of whom are university students.
