Serrekunda West on Saturday opened their 2009 account in the Muhammed Yahya Jammeh Perpetual Tournament by outclassing Sukuta by 1-0 at the Serrekunda West ground.
Edrisa Jarra's 29th minute strike helped Serrekunda West to booked their first victory.
The encounter was a tough and well contested game by both sides. Sukuta players were opportuned with many chances to level the score line but were denied by the SK West defenders who were led by Malick Mendy.
Early in the first half, Sukuta cancelled the lone goal score line but this was nullified by the central referee who called an off side.
Sukuta and SK West are rivals whose matches are always keenly contested. Last year, the two zones met in the same tournament, but the match ended in a stalemate.
Badou Saidy, the coach of Sukuta expressed satisfaction about the performance of his players. He said losing the first game has not dealt a serious blow to their campaign in the zonal.
"The down fall of a man is not the end of his life. We will rectify our errors at the training ground to prepare for the next game", he remarked.
