World leading industrial solutions group, Atlas Copco, plans to expand its operations in Botswana, using its newly opened headquarters to penetrate the mining and construction industries.

Last Thursday, Atlas Copco unveiled its glittering Botswana headquarters, from which the group hopes to tap into the country's booming infrastructural development sector. Since taking over Rand Air 11 years ago, Altas Copco Botswana has diversified its product range and services, gaining ground in a competitive environment. Today, the group's clients include BCL Mine, Sinohydro and UNDP. The company is involved in projects such as the Dikgatlhong Dam construction and deepening of BCL Selebi North shaft.

Atlas Copco has said that in its expansion, it will ensure requisite service and maintenance support for the new product range. The company has construction, mining and compressor technique divisions. Its Dynapac division deals in compaction machinery mostly used in road construction.

Officially opening the new Atlas Copco headquarters in Gaborone, the Assistant Minister of Industry and Trade, Dorcas Makgato-Malesu noted that the company's presence in Botswana is of great benefit to the mining and construction sectors. She said Atlas Copco will strengthen the manufacturing sector. She hailed the company for choosing Botswana as its preferred investment destination, saying this would help grow the local economy and create employment and incomes.

"Let me assure Atlas Copco of my ministry's support in anyway possible as they settle and get established in Botswana. My ministry is committed to providing a conducive environment for you to grow as you help us diversify our economy," she said. She stated that Atlas Copco is expanding its operations in Botswana at a time when a number of infrastructural developments are underway. These include the construction of Dikgatlhong Dam, which is the biggest in the country, the upgrading of a number of rural and urban roads as well as the expansion and renovation of the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport. Atlas Copco's wide range of products are highly popular in the public, private and parastatal sectors, with the company's generators and compressors proving invaluable to many project developers and clients.
