Nigeria: Plateau Advises Against Public Remembrance of Dead Relatives

Jos — The Plateau State Security and Intelligence committee has advised against public remembrance of relatives lost during last year's Jos crisis which followed the local government election in the state.

Plateau State Police Commissioner Mr Gregory Anyanting gave the advice yesterday at a meeting between the security operative and community and religious leaders in Jos as part efforts to ensure a hitch free and peaceful Eid el Kabir celebration . Mr Anyanting noted that the festive period coincided with the one year remembrance of the crisis and if people want to remember their lost relatives, they should do so through prayers in places of worship, but not openly. He said the security agencies would work with community leaders in the area to arrest those that may decide to take laws in to their hands and advised parents to always monitor their wards.

The commissioner said the essence of community policing was not for police to work alone, but to involve the communities they served so that they could work together for sustainable peace in the state.
