Tanzania: Ladies Fall to Uganda

Dar Es Salaam — TANZANIA ladies lost to Uganda by 29 runs in a thrilling match of the Africa under 19 Women Cricket tournament, at the Annadil Burhani ground in Dar es Salaam today.

Uganda won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a score of 106 for Tanzania to chase. Esther Osikol and captain Naomi Kayando scored 22 and 16 runs for Uganda as Tanzania bowlers Zakia Saguti (captain), Mariam Muona and Esther Mika took one wicket each.

Tanzania started well and managed to restrict Uganda batters, but they lost steam as minutes ticked by, giving Uganda middle order batters opportunity to make quick runs between the wickets. Wide balls and poor fielding also cost the home ladies.

In reply to Uganda's target, Tanzania failed to chase. They managed 77 runs for 7 wickets in 30 overs. Saguti scored 20 runs, while Prisca Patrick recorded 12 runs for Tanzania.

"We had some problems with fielding and we gave them too many wide balls. We will have to work on our fielding and improve in batting," said coach Mwanaidi Ibrahim.

Rwanda lost their third consecutive loss in the tournament, after going down by 30 runs at the hands of Zambia today.

Zambia had an excellent game to record their first victory in the tournament. They went to bat first scoring 115 runs for 6 wickets in allotted 30 overs.

Rwanda could not chase after they ended their inning with 85 runs for 9 wickets in 30 overs.

The tournament winds up tomorrow. The morning match will pit Zambia and Kenya, while Tanzania will face Rwanda in the afternoon.
