Somalia: Explosion Kills a Civilian, Injuries Another in Mogadishu

Mogadishu — At least one civilian has been killed and another one wounded in Derkenley district in south of the Somali capital Mogadishu, witnesses told Shabelle radio on Wednesday.

Reports say the blast was a hand grenade which targeted to a government troops' checkpoint at Ma'ma'anka neighborhood in Derkeny district in Mogadishu killing a civilian, wounding another.

"The explosion occurred at around the evening prayer. It was a hand bomb thrown to a government soldiers in Madina specially Darkenley district so one civilian died and another person was wounded. The dead civilian was not identified yet," one witnesses told Shabelle radio by the telephone.

Residents said that the body of the murdered civilian was still where he was shot and killed in the capital adding that he was identified so far.

The movement of the traffic and people in the area was halted after the explosion when more government troops gathered there and they started search operations according to the residents.

"The explosion happened as the troops were very busy for collecting the illegal taxation which is often taken by the public traffic drivers that works between Bakaro market and Derkenley district in the south. After that they opened fire to the civilians which killed one and wounded the other. It is a surprise thing to us really," said another witnesses.

It is not the first time the government troops are targeted explosions. but seems that it is part of a string of blasts targeted to the allied troops of the TFG and AMISOM troops in Mogadishu.
