Zimbabwe: Varsity Gets Heifers

Harare — Businessman and farmer Mr Temba Mliswa has donated 20 heifers and a bull to the Chinhoyi University of Technology for the institution to start a breeding programme at a farm allocated to it by the Government under the land reform programme.

The university has been producing such crops as maize and wheat, but has not ventured into animal husbandry both for consumption at the institution and selling as a means of boosting revenue.

Mr Mliswa, who is also Zanu-PF Mashonaland West secretary for land, announced the donation during a public lecture at CUT on Monday, as he addressed the topic: "Commercial Farming as a Vehicle for Indigenisation and Empowerment".

"I have a passion for cattle but each time I pass through the university farm, I don't see cattle," he said.
