Zimbabwe: 'Rains Won't Wash Away Macheso Gig'

Harare — Heavy rains that have started across the country will not take the thrill out of sungura music ace Alick Macheso's gig at Pamuzinda Highway X-scape tomorrow.

The onset of the rainy season had raised fears that open-air joints would be greatly affected by rains, a development which was likely to force some people to stay indoors.

But show organisers at Pamuzinda -- arguably one of the largest and most popular open-air joints in the capital and probably in the country -- dispelled rain fears saying everything had been put in place to ensure that fun-lovers get the best out of the gig without having to rue the rain.

William Tsandukwa, the Cheso Power promotions manager, said: "The show will be Macheso's first at Pamuzinda after three months. It is a time for us to show the best of the new stuff that we have been preparing that will feature on the new album.

"As you know, he (Macheso) has been playing some of the new songs during his shows and people should expect the best at Pamuzinda since he has been perfecting the songs during rehearsals.

"There are no rain fears since tents are already pitched up at the joint and what we can assure people is that it is safe from the rain," he said.

Proprietor of Pamuzinda Graeme Awudi promised revellers a fun-filled night, saying they had put everything in place to make it a memorable occasion.

"We have put everything in order and we now await the revellers to come and have a good time with Macheso," he said.

Macheso has become one of the most consistent crowd pullers at Pamuzinda.

He has also turned the joint into the "home" of some of his farewell and homecoming gigs when going or returning from abroad.

Kamusena, on the other hand has been holding his own ever since going separate ways with the late Fanuel 'System' Tazvida's Chazezesa Challengers outfit.

He is one of the consistent artistes who maintained the genre that System founded and popularised.
