Abuja — Alhaji Kabiru Manya, Assistant Secretary of the Abubakar Danfuloti-led faction of the ANPP in Sokoto state, has said that the party has not endorsed any candidate for the 2011 presidential election.
Manya was reacting to a statement credited to Danfuloti, in which he said that the party had endorsed Gov. Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano as the party's presidential candidate in the 2011 Presidential election.
In a statement signed by Manya on Wednesday in Sokoto, the party said: "as far as we are concerned, we have not been informed of Shekarau's ambition to vie for the 2011 presidential election under our great party".
The Danfuloti faction, however agreed that "in principles, it allowed Shekarau to open his campaign office in the state in line with the party's democratic posture of accommodating all bona-fide members of the ANPP who wish to contest any elective position in Nigeria".
According to the statement, the party will not discriminate against any member who wants to contest in the 2011 presidential election under the umbrella of the ANPP.
It stated that the party will ensure justice, equity and fairness to all candidates.
"No particular member would be shown favor than the other. The delegates would decide who they want as their candidate.
"We are leaving our doors open to all prospective aspirants to come forth and do so," it said. NAN
