Maiduguri — In the sprit of Sallah celebration, the Borno State Governor Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has donated three bulls, 10 bags of rice, five jerry cans of vegetable oil and N1,000 to corps members serving in the state for the celebrations.
Sheriff, who was represented by his deputy Alhaji Adamu Dibal, made the donation while addressing corps members at the closing ceremony of the 2009 Batch C corps members held at the NYSC Orientation Camp Maiduguri.
Sheriff also assured corps members serving in the state that their allowances will be reviewed upward very soon as a way of motivating them and for serving their fatherland, adding that arrangements are also in top gear to upgrade facilities in the orientation camp to cope with increasing number of corps members deployed to the state.
Sheriff said that government has put in place adequate security arrangements to protect lives and properties of all corps members serving in the state, stressing that they should not panic for any reason, but should report any suspicious characters to their state coordinator, security agencies or their zonal inspectors.
In his welcome address, the state coordinator of the NYSC, Alhaji Habibu Kurawa said the achievements recorded by the NYSC in the state is a magnificent demonstration of their commitment, non violence towards nation building. He commended all collaborating agencies for making these great achievements possible.
In his contributions, the chairman NYSC state governing board, Alhaji Ali Abatcha urged corps members to respect the culture and traditions of their host communities and urged them not to do anything that may go against religious and cultural beliefs of the various communities they found themselves, adding that female corps members should dress modestly.
The chairman also expressed his profound gratitude to the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, for his visit to the camp and his personal donation of a bull and five bags of rice to corps members in the camp.
