Nigeria: Sallah - Muslims Lament Over Lack of Money

Abuja — A large number of Muslims spoken to in the Federal Capital Territory yesterday complained that they have no money to buy rams for this year's Sallah festival.

Some of them said they will pair up with neighbours to observe the killing of rams' rituals for the festival. Mr. Ibrahim Abdulahi, a resident said despite the hardship he will celebrate the festival because God spared him to witness it.

"There is no money to buy things in the market and I have made up my mind to buy one ram instead of usual three rams for the festival," he disclosed.

Another Muslim said he has no alternative than to join forces with his neighbour so that they can purchase meat for the sallah.Mallam Hamizu Muhammed, a ram seller at Dei-Dei, said he regrets investing his money in the ram business this year because of low patronage by Muslims.

"I invested so much on this business and now look at the low patronage that we are experiencing despite the fact that we are selling at a reduced price," he lamented.

He said Muslims have been complaining that there is no money this period.

Abubakar Ismaila, another seller, said he hardly sells up to 10 rams in a day and also sells at a loss.
