South Africa: Suicide Victim's Family to Receive House

Pretoria — Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma is expected to hand over a house to the family of the late S'khumbuzo Mhlongo later today.

Mhlongo, 22, allegedly committed suicide after his urgent ID application papers were torn up by two Pinetown Home Affairs' official earlier this year. The two officials have since been dismissed following disciplinary proceedings instituted against them by the Department of Home Affairs.

The minister, joined by KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Dr Zweli Mkhize, and MEC of Social Development, Dr Meshack Radebe, will hand over the house to the impoverished Mhlongo family in the Molweni village near Hillcrest.

Dlamini Zuma will also hand over an ID to Mhlongo's sister, Zanele Mhlongo.

The handing over of the house to Mhlongo's family is part of a broader programme of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government to mark the 6 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign.
