Nigeria: Communique of the Meeting of the Executive Committee of the NFF, Held Yesterday

Lagos — The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation met at the NFF Secretariat, Federal Capital Territory , Abuja on Wednesday, 25th November, 2009 to discuss on pertinent issues in Nigeria football and decided as follows:

1) The Committee expressed sincere appreciation to all Nigerians, particularly Mr. President, Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua (GCFR) for their support in ensuring the Super Eagles' qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup to be staged in the Republic of South Africa.

2) The Committee commended the excellent organisation of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Nigeria 2009, praising the LOC for a good job as well as the commitment of the eight sub-seats. It also praised the sterling performance of the Nigeria U-17 team, Golden Eaglets, which finished as runners-up.

3) The NFF Executive Committee commended all the Super Eagles' players and members of technical crew for the honour done Nigeria with the World Cup ticket.

4) The Committee also unanimously adopted the position of its technical sub-committee and the Coaches Association of Nigeria, which on Tuesday, 24th November 2009 recommended that members of the Super Eagles' technical crew be kept in their post for the African Cup of Nations, Angola 2010, and FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010. Equally, the camping of the Super Eagles in Namibia has been approved, to start from 28th December 2009.

5) In order to ensure early preparation for upcoming international engagements, the Committee approved the recommendation of the technical sub-committee to appoint John Obuh, Abimbola Samuel and Suleiman Shuaibu as new Head Coach and assistants respectively of the U-20 men's team, and Monday Odigie as the Head Coach of the U-17 boys' team. It also approved the appointment of Eucharia Uche as Head Coach of Super Falcons (to be assisted by Bala Nikyu, Gidado Abubakar and Ann Chiejine), Edat Agat as Head Coach of the U-20 women's team (to be assisted by Wemimo Oni Olanrewaju, Christopher Alor and and Florence Omagbemi) and Peter Dedevbo as Head Coach of the U-17 girls' team (to be assisted by Justine Madugu and Babatunde Sikiru Odubola and one other to be decided in a few days).

6) The Committee also approved plans for an extra-ordinary general assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation to hold before the end of this year. It approved the recommendations of world governing body, FIFA, for amendments in its statutes for drafting of the Electoral Code for elections that will take place next year.
