Nigeria: Katsina to Construct N651 Million Water Scheme

Katsina — As part of efforts aimed at addressing problem of water scarcity in Katsina, the state government says it has approved for construction of four Independent Water Supply Schemes (IWSS), at a cost of over N651.3 million in the state's metropolis.

The state's Water Resources Commissioner, Alhaji Nasiru Mu'azu, who stated this recently, said the schemes would be a bore-hole based project and is expected to be completed within 60 days.

Mu'azu said one of the schemes would be located at the soon-to-be-commissioned 500 housing unit complex, another at Sabuwar Unguwa, a third at Dutsin-Safe Low-cost and Abattoir community areas in the state's metropolis.

He said the water schemes, when completed, would bring an end to the persistent water scarcity presently being experienced in the state capital.

He maintained that government has approved sum of N65.9 million for the procurement of three pumping machines, and raw water treatment pumping machines to replace the obsolete ones at the Ajiwa Water Works.

Mu'azu added that another N78.2 million has been earmarked for the purchase of water treatment chemicals to ensure the supply of clean drinking water to the populace.

He however appealed for patience as government is doing what is possible to address problem of water scarcity in the state capital and its environs.
