Gambia: The Nations, College Lecturers Trained

The School of Education under the Gambia College, recently held a dayÂ's capacity building training for its lecturers, at the College campus in Brikama.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Isatou Ndow, the head of School of Education, said capacity building must be a continouos process in teacher education as new approaches and innovations are always coming up. She remarked that The Gambia College School of Education being the only teacher-training institution in the country needs ongoing capacity building so that itÂ's programmes and congress would be with international teacher-training standards and UNESCO sub-Sahara teacher initiatives.

She revealed that every year lecturers leave their teaching position at Gambia College, and new lecturers are employed, and that all the newly recruited lecturers invariably need some training in teacher- education methodology. She added that regular capacity building activities would ensure staff are briefed with their subject matter, and their teaching and learning skills are improved and thanked UNESO for funding the programme.
