Zimbabwe: Country's Musicians Festival On Tomorrow

Harare — Musicians the world over are known for their busy schedules and it is not easy to convince a group of artistes to come together to perform for their own cause.

However, history will be made tomorrow when a group of 16 artistes performs for their own benefit.

Dubbed "Zimbabwe Musicians Festival 2009" the show is slated for the Harare Gardens starting at 12 noon until very late.

The theme for the show is "Artists Supporting Artists" and it is a festival that brings together different talents and backgrounds.

The line up includes Adam Chisvo whose debut Famba Pore Pore is doing well on the charts, Alexio Kawara, a star in the making, Bob Nyabinde, Busi Ncube, Victor Kunonga, Dumi Ngulube, Edith Katiji, Philip Svosve and Real Sounds.

Other groups are Rute Mbangwa, Willis Wataffi Afrika, Victor Kunonga, Bongo Love, Willom Tight, Dino Mudondo, Banyana Bafana, Noel Zembe and Jeyz Marabini.

Of late, Busi has not been active on stage and her presence at the show will bring a lot of sweet memories, as she is one of the few successful women artistes who have seen it all. Backed by Band Rain, Busi has been in and out of the country where she staged live performances and locally she is a regular at the Book Café.

There are a good number of artistes who are coming up in a big way including Willis the splinter member of Afrika Revenge, Edith and Rute.

Willis has just released his second solo album titled Qaya Roots.

The 13-track album features the hit songs Nziramasanga, Ikozvino, Kambole, Matongo, Woman of Rock and Pamukute among others.

Rute has had a good run since the release of her album Rute Goes Kumanginde.

She has also improved her stage work as seen at the Pan African Festival held in Algiers early this year.

Just like Rute, Edith is proving to be a force to reckon with although she also doubles as a session musician for other artistes.

Victor has been a regular at the Mannenberg and the weekend's show will give him the opportunity to showcase what a great artiste he is.

He debuted onto the scene with his chart-topping album Such Is Life: Ndanyengetedzwa that features the tracks Mayidarirei, Umazenza and Usacheme to mention just a few.

The duo of Willom and Dino is likely to spice up the show as the two have what it takes to rock the crowds. The duo has reunited and so far it has been good.

Banyana Bafana perhaps the only dance group at the event will have a chance to showcase the stuff they are made of since they are expected to tour India.

Another artiste who is going to rekindle his romance with the crowds is Zembe who has not been active on the music scene.

Zembe is known for his soothing gospel vibes and depending on how he stages his show, he could rise up again.
