The Lord's Resistance Army rebels have abducted 24 people and killed one in a remote corner of Central African Republic, 850km east of the capital Bangui, the army said yesterday.
The Defence/army spokesperson, Lt. Col Felix Kulayigye said the attack took place on November 20 in Barao, near the town of Dedrisaak. He said among the abductees are a headmaster and his deputy of a school in Dedrisaak.
"The information we have is that they attacked killed one person and abducted 24 others and looted food," he said.
However, reports by agencies, say 11 people were killed in the latest wave of attack by estimated 40 rebels who were reportedly armed with guns, machetes and clubs.
"They attacked the village from three directions," said Leon Hetanga, a Djemah resident who escaped the attack told local media.
According to an eye witness, LRA were later ambushed by UPDF near River Ngoangoa.
However, Col. Kulayigye said yesterday afternoon that two abductees and two LRA had reported to the UPDF base in Djemah. Bangui allowed Kampala to deploy in its territory to hunt down rebels in CAR.
