In line with its corporate social responsibility policy, APM Terminals Apapa Limited has commissioned the renovated Randle Senior Secondary School, Apapa which cost the company N10million.
The renovation which commenced in December, 2007, was executed by the APM Terminals and subcontractors.
Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of the global terminal operating company, Mr. Martin Dirks, said that APMT will continue to work to improve the local, social and economic conditions in and around its operational sites and where the terminals presence is most closely felt.
Dirks said APM Terminals has a corporate citizenship policy which involves active participation in local communities.
"Operating as local companies around the globe, we witness on daily basis the unmet basic needs of people in our local communities. We believe that we have a responsibility to proactively contribute to the communities in which we operate and which our fellow employees live and work", Dirks said.
He added that APM Terminals intervention in the once dillapidated facilities at the school include refurbishing all the classroom and office doors, walls, windows, painting, repair and restoration of water supply and reconstruction of the toilets.
In her own speech at the commissioning ceremony, Tutor General/ Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Education District 1V, Mrs. Wonuola Idris expressed the gratitude of the State Government to APM Terminals for its outstanding contribution to humanity.
She also commended the management of APMT for showing interest in the enhancement of quality education in the state.
Earlier the Principal of Randle Secondary School, Mr Miftah Abiodun Shobowale, had expressed appreciation of staff and students of his school to APM Terminals. Shobowale urged other corporate organisations to take a clue from APM Terminals and invest in the training and education of the nation's future leaders.
In 2008, APM Terminals received the 2008 Merit Award from the Lagos Education District IV for her contribution to education in Lagos State.
