Gambia: Dwain Chambers Hope Good for Local Athletes

Dwain chambers the number one sprinter in Europe is in the Gambia for a week's tour from 13th-20th November 2009.

Dwain chambers is a British Citizen who is here to demonstrate his skills, assist athletes in training and share athletics experience with Gambian Junior Sprinters. Chambers held trainings at the independence stadium from Monday 16 to Thursday 19th November 2009.

In a press conference held at Friendship Hotel, Chambers said he is here to help up grade Gambian athletes so that they can be part of world champions. Chambers a one time best in Europe was once caught for using drugs and is being suspended in the International Athletics competitions.

Chambers who should return in the competition sometime around March, wishes young athletes not to follow his suite, and whatever was done was a mistake. He added that he feels that he has lied to his family and friends because he was using something else. Chambers said right now he has to fight to be at the top again, that even the respect is no more there. So what he needs now he said is to stand strong.

Chambers reiterates that he is here to help athletes improve themselves and to make it happen for them. He said they don't need to go to America or Europe that they can't make it happen here, "They can do it" he admonished.

"They don't need to go there; they will be tracked down as what happened to him'. He said and so he said he doesn't want that to happen to the youngsters. Chambers said he wants to help them participate in the competition and what they need is training and facilities. He said they can do it.

"I want to teach them discipline and want to give them everything so that they can fight back, you have to do it yourself," he said. Dwain concluded that now his consent is clear and he will compete on March 12-14. Dwain was in the Gambia with his wife and friend Jackie Jeffrey who accompanies him.
