Abuja — The Executive Board of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has nullified the disqualification of the Engineer Sani Ndanusa by the Executive Committee of the NOC as a candidate in the forthcoming election of the Committee.

Seventeen presidents of National Sports Federations (Olympic sports), who attended a meeting of the NOC Executive Board in Abuja signed the document quashing the decision of the NOC Executive Committee.

Only Morakinyo who represented the Nigeria Volleyball Federation at the meeting did not sign the document.

In a position paper made available to Trustsports titled "Re: Nigeria Olympic Committee 2009 Annual General Meeting/Election", the Board stated that "the screening conducted by the Executive Committee chaired by Engr. Habu Gumel on the 18th November 2009 for the forthcoming elections is null and void, giving that the Nigeria Olympic Constitution has been breached".

It added that Article 29:1 of the Nigeria Olympic Committee constitution states that: "one trustee and two patrons shall be appointed by the Executive Board. One of them shall act as chairman and the other as returning officer".

According to the Board, the provision off starting the electoral process with the collection of forms has not been complied before the purported disqualification of candidates.

It called on the Executive Committee of the NOC to summon as a matter of urgency, a meeting of the Executive Board to appoint one trustee and two patrons to supervise the electoral process as required by Article 29:1 of the constitution.

Furthermore, the Board noted that it will no longer be feasible for the Annual General Meeting (GM) to hold on November 9th as earlier planned, adding that after complying with all the requirements, a new date be set aside for the election.
