Ghana: Ministry Extols Nestle

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has copiously commended beverage producers, Nestle Ghana Limited, for rallying behind the country's sports, especially athletics.

Mr. Rashid Pelpuo has advocated a partnership with Nestle that will yield result in the Ministry's policy of developing sports at the grass roots.

"We as government have recognized your efforts over the years, which has produced a tall list of sporting heroes in the country, you have, through your flagship product, Milo, stood distinct by way of supporting sports," Hon, Pelpuo stated in a press briefing in Accra last Tuesday.

Hon. Pelpuo suggested an annual athletics competition that will revive athletics, a sport he said is taking a nosedive.

And to put the sport back on track, the Sports Minister revealed that his outfit is taking it up from the government level by repackaging its policy and sponsorship to give athletics a phase lift.

Mr. Samer Chedid, the Managing Director of Nestle Ghana Limited, in his acceptance remark thanked the Ministry for recognizing his outfit's effort, and said "This will certainly urge us on, to go the extra mile to support sports in the country."

The acting Chief Executive of the National Sports Council (NSC) Mr. Worlanyo K. Agra lauded Nestle for the introduction of the U-13 soccer championship that seeks to unearth talents from the grass roots.
