Three UPDF soldiers died on Thursday morning in a motor accident in Djibouti, hours after they arrived in capital of Djibouti for the East African Brigade training exercise.
One of the dead soldiers has been identified as Maj. Kahangye, the army Director of Political Commissary.
The Defence/army spokesperson, Lt. Col Felix Kulayigye said the Djibouti army truck which was carrying the UPDF soldiers, overturned killing three soldiers and injuring several others.
"We were expecting the bodies last night, but I think they will arrive today (yesterday)," he told Saturday Monitor yesterday.
Col. Kulayigye refused to reveal the identities of the two other victims, saying they were to inform their families before revealing their identities to the press.
The soldiers were travelling from "their first entry point" to the training venue, Col. Kulayigye said.
However, according to the military source, seven were critically injured. The deceased were in the second lot batch of 58 troops.
The other batch of soldiers that will make a total of 139 troops slated to attend training left yesterday.
The exercise slated for Sunday is aimed at training the soldiers in peace keeping, counter terrorism, disaster management and fitness among others, a source said.
