Harare — A Chinhoyi man wanted for an armed robbery committed while allegedly dressed in army fatigues has been arrested a year after police started hunting for him.
Samuel Chidza (29) had been on the police wanted list since March 2008 and was arrested in Chinhoyi last week. He had in his possession the red beret, a camouflage shirt and 303 rifle (serial number 4172) that were allegedly used in the robbery.
He has since appeared before magistrate Mr Ngoni Nduna who remanded him in custody to December 7. Chidza allegedly teamed up with Abel Dumbura who is already on remand and Edgar Munungirwa.
One of them was armed with a .303 rifle and clad in army uniform when they approached Augustine Banda who was walking along a footpath at Glenamel Farm.
One of the gang pointed the gun at Banda and ordered him to lie down. They robbed him of two cellphones, two khakhi shorts, two golf shirts and about ZW$20 billion.
Dumbura was nabbed after that alleged offence while Munungirwa is still at large. Banda positively identified Chidza in Chegutu but the suspect allegedly managed to run away. However, his luck ran out on Saturday when he was arrested more than a year after the commission of the alleged offence. He led police to Munungirwa's house where the red beret cap, camouflage shirt and .303 rifle were recovered.
