It was celebration galore at the Cathedral of Methodist Church Nigeria, Lagos West, Palm Avenue, Mushin, Lagos as the Bishop; Lagos West Diocese of the church, Rt. Rev. Ayo Isaac Olawuyi, celebrated his 50th birthday anniversary.
This is amidst commendations on his various achievements over the years as the apex man of the diocese. In his sermon, Rt. Rev. Sunday Onuoha who spoke on "Teach us to number our days aright", said it is not the number of days that one spends on earth that counts but one's contribution to humanity.
He said a good number of men have lived and gone without identifying God's purpose for their lives and added that there are still men who are yet to know the purpose of life.
Quoting Psalm 90, Onuoha said numbering a man's years is irrelevance unless when it is numbered aright, saying that life is baseless only when it has great impacts on people's lives.
Speaking about the celebrant, Onuoha who doubles as Bishop Olawuyi's school mate said the celebrant, since childhood, has been of great relevance to the church of God and also to his community.
Presenting a Bible, the symbol of his call to Olawuyi, Onuoha said "I hand over this Bible again to you as a reminder to what you profess. You owe a debt of defending the Bible and you have to live to the standard. We are praying that you keep numbering your days aright, that nothing will take you away from your faith.
Congratulations Ayo for having been found faithful". Chairman of the occasion, Senator Ganiyu Solomon said they came to celebrate a man always refered to as "our bishop".
According to him, Bishop Olawuyi is worth celebrating, having come this far in his profession. He has singled himself out in the ministry and symbolizes what a bishop should be.
Describing him, Senator Solomon said "He is an epitome peace and humility and also one that somebody can look up to not only as a religious leader but also as a community leader who is ready to carry people along any day".
Speaking to Sunday Champion, Bishop Olawuyi said it is only God that has the power to elevate man.
On his commitment to the call, the Bishop said "When I was passing out from the Trinity College, I was given a Bible, When I was consecrated a bishop, I was given a Bible and now, I have been given a Bible. Bible is the only weapon, it is the only constitution with which we work. I have asked God for a renewed strength and grace for greater exploit.
Among the dignitaries that graced the occasion were, Primate of the Church, Rt. Rev. Dr. Ola Makinde and wife, Governor of Oyo State, Chief Alao Akala, wife of Ekiti State Governor, Mrs. Kemi Oni.
