Namibia: Vaico the Pencil Artist

LÜderitz — Pencil Portrait Artist, Vaico Haimbenge, has the natural ability to produce images on paper with a pen or pencil. He elegantly creates portraits from photographs and observation.

His drawings reflect a delicate intellect of feature and detail. His finished work seems the most natural expression of effortless ability, so instinctive and graceful. A unique technique of skillfulness coupled with raw talent, a portrait with massive completion and comfort.

Vaico, who has been drawing since the age of 12, said he always had a hunger for drawing. The hunger to create images with a pen and pencil, the hunger to create songs with his virtuous vocals, the hunger to create dance moves with his body.

"I am truly blessed. My friends call me the blessed one and that is indeed true. I'm blessed with so much talent and that is why I want to inspire the young people who are only starting to blossom in their talent - never to give up! People will continuously tell you that your talent is a waste of time and resources and that you are not good enough, but the trick is to continue. Continue to believe in yourself, continue to motivate yourself, continue to persevere and be persistent in exercising your talent, because it is only when you love doing what you do that you will prosper. People might not understand what you and exercising your talent is about, but one day they will understand. Life is short and therefore it is important to love and enjoy how you live your life.

"Most importantly, be responsible and never forget to give praise to God for your talent," Vaico said, and added that: "As young artists, we have to be patient with ourselves, but we also have to become daring in our pursuit of success".
