Nigeria: Twenty Five Parties to Form Mega Party

Lagos — About 25 political parties in Nigeria will form the new proposed mega party, the Mega Summit Movement, LEADERSHIP has gathered.

Leaders of the 25 proposed defunct parties met in Abuja to finalise plans to stop running a party.

Some members of the parties did not feel comfortable with the leadership of the new proposed mega party, a source said, adding that many parties have been torn apart over the creation of the party.

The Action Congress (AC) has been at logger heads with the former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) had also threatened to suspend the its presidential candaidate, in the 2007 general elections, General Muhamadu Buhari.

The South West team of the proposed party said that other political parties have agreed to work in alliance with the party when created.

The mega summit which may hold early next year is witnessing delay due to some strong forces in the camp of Atiku Abubakar who refused to drop AC for the new party, the source said.
