Nigeria: Cancer-Stricken Woman Solicits Assistance

Kemi Ikuomola, a 40-year-old cancer stricken woman in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, has appealed for assistance from individuals, organisations and governments.

Ikuomola told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Okitipupa that she was diagnosed of the disease at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in 2007.

The mother of two also said: "Ilaje Local Government gave me N250,000, while Ondo State Oil producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) gave me N100,000.

"My co-workers at Ilaje Local Government have so far contributed N93,000. I am a health officer from Ajisere Village in Ilaje Local Government Area."

She said that all the money so far donated to her had gone into chemotherapy.

"When I first started treatment, I had to travel every three weeks to LUTH for the N100,000 injections, and now I don't have money for food anymore," she said.

Ikuomola said she noticed some improvements due to the treatments but that after she went for treatment in May this year, she ran out of funds.

"The cancer has eaten my left breast; I want help from the state government. My mother is no more and my husband has been running around for money since," she said.

She also appealed to the state government, non-governmental organisations and members of the public to come to their aid. (NAN)
