Namibia: Brandon Hammond Releases Christmas CD

Windhoek — Music producer and psalmist, Brandon Hammond is set to release another astounding music album. A Christmas CD featuring twelve time-honoured carols rearranged in completely different versions.

The album, inter alia, showcases his multi-talented 11-year old daughter, Zavia, who performs most of the lead vocals. A musician in her own right, Zavia is fluent in no less than five instruments and recently also qualified for the 2010 South African Performing Arts Championships in the vocal category of her age group.

Dad and daughter open this thrilling CD with the title track, "Feliz Navidad" (Spanish for "Merry Christmas"), cleverly arranged into a medley with "We wish you a Merry Christmas", followed by "Give Thanks", popularised by globally acclaimed Praise & Worship leader, Don Moen. Zavia not only entertains, but exhorts listeners with a captivating recital of a familiar portion of Scripture from Isaiah 9. Moreover, music lovers of all ages will also appreciate her innocent, unpretentious interpretations of "Away in a manger" and "Al was ek nie daar nie".

Yet, another highlight of the CD is Brandon's compelling duet with Ludmila Thomas performing the all-time classic "Oh Holy Night". Additionally, Brandon also contributes a guitar instrumental ("A Ray of Hope") along with three majestic solo vocal performances. The family duo finally conclude this pulsating album with a show-stopping rendition of "Joy to the World" in a reminiscently Cape Townian style.

What makes this venture very special is the fact that Brandon's son, Angelo (18), served as the recording engineer for the project. "It's indescribably awesome to be aided by your own on both sides of the microphone," the overwhelmed father observed, ascribing it all to God's bountiful mercies and undeserved favour.

The CD, charitably produced in aid of C.A.T.S. (Creative Arts & Theatrical Services), a Tsumeb-based arts and drama institution, retails at a mere N$100.00 and is solely marketed and distributed by the same. Interested individuals can contact Karien Viljoen on 0813776255 or write to
