Nigeria: Aero to Conserve N900 Million From 'No Frills' Service

Abuja — Aerocontractors Company of Nigeria, Nigeria's pioneer airline of 'paid-for-in-flight' menu, a component of 'No frills flights' in the western world, will be saving about N900 million annually with the introduction of the paid-for-in-flight menu.

The airline which operates mainly the 120-seater Boeing 737 and 50-seater Dash 8-300 Bombardier aircraft does 51 domestic flights daily have forty of the flights done with the Boeing 737 and 10 with the Dash 8-300 aircraft.

Its menu lists include Can Coca Cola, Sprite, Fanta, and Schweppes going for N150; Water N100; Five Alive Juice (250ml) N100; while the snacks start with Tuna Sandwich N400; Butter Croissant N150; Chicken Pie N200; Chicken Sandwich N400; Sausage Roll N150; Cowed Beef Sandwich N400; Golden Nuts N50; Cookies x3large N150 and Raisin Muffin N300.

Daily Trust check show that in a flight where 100 passengers are not served, the usual meal as before in an average cost of N550 per head, the airline would have saved N55, 000 on that flight.

It will therefore be saving an average of N2.475million daily in 51 flights; 74.250million monthly and N891million yearly. The airline on November 16, 2009 initiated a policy to suspend its usual refreshment been served to it passengers on board.
