All is now set for the maiden edition of the West Africa International Taekwondo Championship which begins at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Abuja National Stadium.
Taekwondo, a Korean martial art and the national sport of South Korea, has gained wide application across the world through activities such as the competition in view.
The competition, which is being organised by the Korean Cultural Centre under the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Abuja, in collaboration with the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, will attract participants from Benin Republic, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Togo, and Nigeria.
The Director of the Cultural Centre, Jeong Sun Suh, who announced the details at a media briefing to herald the championship in Abuja, said there will also be a South Korean Kukkinwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team Exhibition which will open tomorrow at the same venue.
Beginning from 1989 to last year, the main demonstration activities of the Kukkinwon Demonstration Team has gone on demonstration tour to numerous countries across the globe.
Speaking further, Jeong Sun Suh who was accompanied to the briefing by Nigeria Taekwondo Federation President, Jonathan Nnaji said two top players at the championship will be sponsored to a training tour of Korea.
Nnaji also informed that 30 members of the Nigeria Taekwondo Demonstration Team will be sponsored to Korea by the event's organisers for a training programme where they will learn and train on modern taekwondo equipments and facilities.
