Relatives of the late Wilson Gyamfi, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Polling Station Chairman who met his untimely death following an alleged punch thrown at him by the Berekum Constituency first Vice-Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Nuro Bediako, are worried about the way they have been left to their fate by the party, and the continuous adjournment of the case.

Speaking to The Chronicle at Berekum, the family members said though the largest opposition party, which was then the ruling party, made some donations during the funeral of their late brother, they had not heard anything from the party again.

The elder brother of the deceased, Kwame Agyei, who spoke to The Chronicle about the plight of the widow and her kids, said the NPP donated GH¢500 to the widow, GH¢1,500 to her children, and the mother of the deceased GH¢200.

Kwame Agyei was also dismayed that for over a year now, the prosecution of the suspect in the case had still not ended for the family to determine their next line of action. According to Mr. Agyei, the widow and the children have become a burden on the family, because she has been dismissed from her job after the change of government.

He continued that after she was sacked, the family managed to find some capital for her, which she now uses to sell charcoal to cater for the three children, but that was not enough.

Kwame Agyei is therefore appealing to the Attorney General to expedite action on the case, so that the widow and the children would be given some compensation for their up-keep and education.

Mr. Nuro Bediako, who, according to Sgt. Nartey, the officer who first handled the case before the Attorney-General took over, has been charged for negligently causing harm, would re-appear before the Berekum High Court on December 1 for the continuation of the trial.

It would be recalled that The Chronicle reported in its front page on Monday August 4, 2008, that "tragedy hits NPP at Berekum: Chairman Drops Delegate Dead with punch."

The paper reported that the Berekum Constituency office of the then ruling NPP was on Tuesday July 29, 2008, turned into a boxing arena when the Constituency's First Vice-Chairman, Nuro Bediako, clashed with a 35-year old polling station chairman, Wilson Gyamfi.
