Namibia: Big Brother Africa 4 - Great Balls of Fire

WELL, Mzamo shattered the glass ceiling on Wednesday night! OK, not exactly she punched her fist into a glass door, leaving one helluva cracking road map of her anger.

Eish peeps. Zamy and Itai had a world championship blow-up.

Now the two are in the BBA slammer, handcuffed to one another and sentenced to sorting a huge bucket of assorted lentils into colour categories.

If they need to go to the loo, it has to be done under 'armed guard' in case one of them tries to get their Wentworth Miller ['Prisonbreak'] on and make a break for it!!

The two were charged with conduct unbecoming during a public hearing yesterday after Biggie headmistress called an urgent meeting of all housemates in the lounge.

In her best stentorian tone, she referred to the "altercation", which involved "threatening language, threatening behaviour, verbal abuse, and damage to property".

As a result, Itai and Mzamo have been confined to the Glass House. And, while they count the cost of their sins, they've also been commanded to compose a joint apology to fellow housemates.

They can only be 'released' after the apology.

THE TROUBLES

Yip, it was drama with a capital 'D' on Wednesday. D.R.A.M.A.!!

EeuuuuuuuuuuW! And is BBA nation in uproar over who's to blame.

The hanging judges are out in full force. There are those who think Mzamo should be hung, drawn and quartered and flung in the gutter "where she belongs".

Like a heaving swarm of maggots, they are having a feeding frenzy of self-righteous note.

Others are adamant that it's a surprise that there hasn't been a meltdown before given Itai the sly's subversive use of cunning and guile to goad especially the women in the house.

And me? Eish, I'm not angry, nor furious. I'm just livid. At the pharisees and yes, Itai.

You know, beyond angry and furious. Heat-seeking missile livid. Incandescent with rage. I'm flashing sparks like a neon light that's blown a fuse.

OK, first things first. I think both Itai and Zamy are to blame but that Itai needs to take prime responsibility for the incident.

Mzamo was under the influence of alcohol; Itai was drunk on himself. They argued.

As he zoned in on her, disdain hovered on the end of his nose like a boil waiting to be pierced, superiority oozed out of every pore, a barely hidden sneer hovered round the edge of his mouth like an AK-47 recoiler itching for action. His eyes? Cold as a rattlesnake.

He told Mzamo her behaviour was "terrible" and "appalling for a woman". He told her she "doesn't act like a woman", is "an embarrassment you act strangely", followed by "people like you".

"Look at you you're a violent person," he taunted. On and on, he went, like the slow drip of water torture. "Look at her," he dismissively gesticulated to the others, as Mzamo tried to make herself heard.

At one point he lifted his arm as if to strike her, but managed to restrain himself. Just.

Eish, Itai!! What trashwad behaviour. Fan-diddly-dayum-tastic. I mean. To those saying the Zimbabwean has always been a "gentleman" For crying out loud, what BBA show have you been watching?

Yes, he maintains a veneer of civility when it suits him, but usually only to get what he wants.

I don't dislike Itai. He has many worthwhile qualities, but tolerance is not one of them.

It's Itai's way, or the highway. Itai thinks he's the 'It' without the 'ai'. Ai, ai, ai. Aikona!

You know, the authoritarian chief who must be obeyed.

And if you don't fall into line, he dips into his suburban, green-glowing-nano-slime-ammo-pack.

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING

On a more serious note, verbal abuse is as unacceptable as violence.

It's emotional battering, akin to institutionalised violence on a personal level; the same type of institutionalised violence which, on a broader political scale, has led to many a rebel movement being formed.

It was Itai's generalisation of gender norms in Africa that was like a red flag to a bull for Mzamo, aggravated by his refusal to hear her out. She lost it and began to shout at him and pushed at him to try and get him to listen to her point of view.

Later she walked outside. But her anger boiled up again, and spilled over. She wanted to confront Itai. Edward and Emma tried to soothe her, but to no avail. Smasho, crasho, she Chuck Norris-ed the glass door with her fist.

At that point Biggie H called her into the diary room

Mzamo later told Kevin that she was really upset by Itai's inability to treat her with respect as a woman. More than that, she said, everyone deserves a chance to have their say.

And Itai? Well, he got his dastardling on and, as my Head of House Veronica said yesterday morning, tried to be all skynheilig (sanctimonious) soos gewoonlik (as usual). Somehow the guy always tries to paint himself as underdone, the victim. As if that's not enough, he then tries to throw a pitai eish, I mean pity party and embed his take among the other housemates.

Look, they were both in the wrong. But Itai should have known better than to tell Mzamo she's "not a proper African woman". And to harp on and on and on ; to tell her that she's "only a woman", and to button it! To infer to another of the housemates that if she was his wife he would have beaten her.

I just hope he didn't think he could get away with it because she was "high", as Emma said.

Itai should have manned up and walked away.

Actually, I sometimes think Itai is on the wrong show. He should be given a bit part in the BBC's 'Annually Retentive'. Oooooops, I forgot, definitely not for Itai. It's a comedy!

And yes, Mzamo needs to cut back on her drinking in the house.

Eish, Mzamo and Itai are easily the most intelligent housemates. They both have a thing about authority: Itai likes to wield it, and Mzamo, the bandit that she is, rebels against it.

Still, it seems like they were sorting out their eish yesterday! A bit of soul searching won't do either of them any harm!!
