Tanzania: 25,000 Villagers Benefit From CBHCC Project

Arusha — Residents of Oljoro and Muriet wards of Arumeru District and those residing in Oljoro Number 10 in Simanjiro district now have access to clean and safe water after completing phase two of a community water project.

Speaking during the launch of a new board for the Community Based Health Care Council, the project coordinator Shija Mlingwa said the project had been sponsored by Simavi and Water Aid organizations but implemented through CBHCC.

So far about Tsh 1billion has been spent on the project and another Tsh 800 million will be given to phase 3 of the project to complete the water service community initiative.

According to Oljoro ward councilor Lesika Ole Langai, people from six villages in three wards totaling about 25,000 are now benefiting from the project success.

Before the implementation of the project residents of the villages were compelled to trek up to 20 kilometers daily in search of water for domestic use.

Arumeru District Commissioner Mercy Sila who was the guest of honour at the launch ceremony called for the beneficiaries of the project to take care of the infrastructure and to watch out for vandals.

Meanwhile, Residents of Mringiringi and Ngaramtoni villages, in the Arumeru District now also have access to clean and safe water after two bore holes have been drilled, courtesy of the Sakila based International Evangelism Church.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony, the Member of Parliament for Arumeru West Constituency, Mr. Elisa Mollel said residents have been enduring the problem of water for a long time but that they have now tackled the problem.

The project will benefit more than 16,000 residents who had to walk long distances in search of water.

Mr. Mollel said that the plan is to drill eight boreholes in his constituency and the initiative is being implemented in other locations of the constituency.
