Tunis — Tunisia has been elected in the person of Mr. Mohamed Béchir Khalfallah as member of the African commission of peoples' and human rights. The oath-taking ceremony was held during the 46th ordinary session of the commission last November 11-25 in Banjul, in Gambia.
During that session, Tunisia's delegate has been unanimously appointed as special rapporteur of human rights campaigners in Africa and chairman of the working group on economic, social and cultural rights in Africa (ECOSOC).
This election is a token of gratitude to Tunisia for the efforts it is constantly making in matters of protection and dissemination of the culture of human rights as well as for its role in supporting these rights at both international and African levels.
The African commission of peoples' and human rights meets in May and November of each year in ordinary session to enable government delegates and human rights campaigners to assess the situation of these rights in the African continent. (TAP)
