East Africa: VP Bukenya On China Working Visit

Kampala — THE Vice-President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, is in China for a two-week working visit. He will meet leading industrialists and visit small and medium scale industries and technological innovation centres of relevance to Uganda and East Africa.

On arrival in Beijing last Wednesday, Bukenya was received by ambassadors Charles Wagidoso Madibo (Uganda), Julius Sunkuri (Kenya), Gabriel Sabushimike (Burundi), Omar Mapuri (Tanzania) and Ben Rugangazi (Rwanda).

Bukenya later held discussions on technological transfer that focused on how middle and small enterprises in Uganda can benefit from the Chinese technologies and embrace efficient production systems.

The Vice-President visited Gold Palace, where he was impressed by the level of technological advancement in the production of several products from emblems, inscriptions and souvenirs.

He also visited Yuaxing Vegetable and Food Factory and China Heavy Machinery Company and invited the firm to invest in power generation in Uganda.
