Nigeria: Bauchi to Insist On HIV/Aids Test Before Marriage

Bauchi — Couples intending to get married in Bauchi State are to undergo compulsory HIV/AIDS test. This is part of the government's efforts to control the spread of the disease in the state, Commissioner for Health, Samaila Tella, has said.

The commissioner who said this at this year's World Aids Day yesterday assured that the state government would ensure that HIV/AIDS is completely eradicated from the state. In his address, the Executive Chairman of the state Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, leprosy and malaria, BACATMA, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed said the agency would continue to support various NGOs and PLWHA to curtail the spread of the disease.
