Effiduase-Ash — THE EFFIDUASE-ASOKORE Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has held its constituency elections at Effiduase over the week end with Mr. Osei Adiyaah, an Entrepreneur, wrestling the chairmanship position from Mr. Afram Agyeman to become the new constituency chairman of the party.
The election, which was held under tight security, turned to be one of the most peaceful elections held by the party in the constituency so far.
About 350 delegates voted in the election for 17 candidates, who contested for various positions including Women's Organizer, Youth Organizer, Organizer, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Second Vice-Chairman, First Vice-Chairman, and Chairman.
Mr. Kwame Ampratwum won the position of Secretary, when he defeated the incumbent, Mr. Asiedu Fofie, who has held that position since 1992, whilst Madam Stella Kwakye Osarfo won the position of Second Vice-Chairman and Mr. Bawuah Daniel becoming the First Vice- Chairman.
Mr. Kwame Adu, who was the incumbent Organizer, maintained his position, whilst Mr. Owusu Asante also defeated Mr. Asiamah Felix to win the vacant Assistant Secretary position vacated by Madam Tiwaa Anin, who contested for Women's Organizer.
In the Women's Organizer category, Madam Amma Owusuaa came out as the winner when she defeated Madam Tiwaa Anin whilst Oteng Charles, a student at the University of Education, Winneba, pushed out Yeboah to become the Constituency Youth Organizer.
Present at the function were Hon. Lawyer Frank Boakye Agyen, MP for Effiduase-Asokore Constituency, Mr. Samuel Cudjoe, Regional Secretary of the party and the Regional Organizer.
In a pre-election speech, Hon Frank Boakye Agyen entreated members and delegates not to see the elections as a battle to divide the party, but rather as a tool to bring members together, for the accord of wrestling power from the ruling NDC party.
He said opposing candidates should not see themselves as enemies, but rather as party members who are striving to move the party forward and that so no one should feel embittered when results do not go his or her way.
An elated Osei Adiyaah, who said he owed his victory to the party, said his first mission is to bring all members of the party who were harboring ill-feelings towards the party in the constituency on board and unite them all.
He said being in opposition is not easy, but he will use his God given charisma to bring all members on board to recapture political glory in 2012. He also said he believed in the grass root people, since they hold the foundation of the party in the constituency so he will embark on a house to house campaign to solicit for their votes for the party.
Mr. Kwame Adu, the constituency organizer was optimistic that NPP will come back to power in 2012 but said it will take hard work to unseat the NDC. He said the party will re-strategize and come back strongly in 2012.
