Tunis — Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Foued Mebazaa received, on Thursday in Bardo, Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci and the delegation accompanying him on his visit in Tunisia.
The meeting turned on the excellent fraternity and co- operation relations binding Tunisia and Algeria and on the constant progress they have been undergoing at all levels, as part of mutual respect and continuous consultation, under the impulse of the two sisterly countries' leaders.
The talk allowed to exchange views on several issues of mutual interest.
The two sides laid emphasis, in this regard, on the need to redouble efforts to reinforce dialogue between the brotherly peoples and to bring their visions closer, taking into account the community of their destiny, in light of the challenges posed in today's world. Mr. Foued Mebazaa stressed, on the occasion, the importance of parliamentary relations and their active contribution to enrich and diversify bilateral co-operation. He highlighted, in this regard, continuous co-ordination between Tunisian and Algerian MPs in regional and international parliamentary meetings.
He underscored, in this connection, the need to multiply the exchange of experiences and expertise in matters of law- making, in view of the similarity of Tunisian and Algerian parliamentary experience.
For his part, Mr. Mourad Medelci congratulated Mr. Foued Mebazaa on his re-election as Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies and extended to him the regards of the Algerian National People's Assembly Speaker and invitation to visit Algeria with a delegation of MPs.
He also voiced satisfaction at the continuous progress which the Tunisian-Algerian relations are living through, pointing out that the historical ties binding the two countries represent a propitious platform for reinforcing bilateral co-operation at all levels.
Mr. Mourad Medelci expressed wish to further boost bilateral co-operation, notably in the scientific and technological research field.
The meeting was attended by chairman of the Chamber's Political Affairs, Human Rights and Foreign Relations Commission and Algeria's ambassador in Tunis. (TAP)
