Vice President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said he spoke with President Umaru Musa Yar'adua and that the president asked him to represent him at the commissioning ceremony of an estate in Abuja.

Jonathan spoke at the commissioning of a housing estate known as Verity Garden and Court and a medical complex built by the Federal Government for the State Security Service (SSS).

He said there was no cause for alarm on the ill health of the President, adding that provision of housing and adequate security are critical to the achievement of the administration's seven point agenda. According to him, the State Security Service has been supporting the Federal Government in fighting youth restiveness and other forms of crises in the Niger Delta Region of the country.

Earlier, the National Security Adviser Major General Abdullahi Mukhtar (rtd) said the housing project signals genuine development as part of the transformation of the SSS in the past two years.

The NSA maintained that it would be risky for security operatives to be allowed to operate in hardship hence the new motivation by way of capacity building, provision of accommodation, medical facilities, and punishment and awards for those who deserve it.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director General of SSS Mr. Afakirya A. Gadzama called for commitment and dedication of the leadership of the country to the contribution of national development.
