"There is nothing good about this job, it is just the need for money that took me on the streets," says Maria Nanyonga (not real names), a former sex worker.
Having become a prostitute at 16 years, Nanyonga is but just a statistic of teenagers peddling their bodies for cash. Help the Street Child - Uganda (HSGU), a local NGO that helps rehabilitate ex-sex workers, estimates in its 2009 survey that there are some 1,000 commercial sex workers on Kampala streets.
