Nairobi — Chief Mediator Kofi Annan this morning held a meeting with President Kibaki.
The closed-door meeting took place at Nairobi's Harambee house, the President's office, and both parties left without briefing journalists
Mr Annan jetted in last week to witness and discuss the pace of reforms in the country. He is expected to speak to the media on Tuesday regarding his talks with the President and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The Prime Minister had a meeting with the Chief mediator at his Treasury office on Thursday, though he did not brief the media on the details of the discussion. A statement from the AU Panel of Eminent African Personalities said the discussion with was on progress made since Mr Annan's last visit in October.
On Thursday, Mr Annan criticised Kenya's failure to establish a local mechanism to try post-election violence suspects and promised to follow up the issue with the two coalition principals, President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The former UN secretary general brokered Kenya's peace deal between Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga that ended the post-election violence. More than 1,000 people died and another 600,000 were displaced from their homes during the chaos.
