Nigeria: Luth Begins Free Lip/Palate Surgery

A TOTAL of 119 students have been admitted into the School of Health Information Management of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Lagos, just as the health institution is kicking off a free lip and palate surgery week today.

A statement by the institution's Public Relations Officer and Co-ordinator, Corporate Services, Mrs. Hope Nwalolo said the students were admitted during the 2009/2010 academic session matriculation ceremony held recently.

LUTH's Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr Olugbenga Ogunlewe, on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Akin Osibogun, enjoined them to be focussed and acquire good character.

Two guest lecturers addressed the students during the ceremony on Challenges of Tertiary Education and Academic Excellence included Dr Afolabi Lesi, Associate Professor/Consultant Paediatrician at LUTH and Dr Patrick Orumbie, Family Physician, Staff Medical Clinic, LUTH.

Meanwhile, in collaboration with Smile Train Organisation, USA, screening for the free lip and palate surgery begins today 8th December, 2009 and extends till 12th January 2010 daily by 2.00 pm.

Members of the public desirous the services are requested to visit the maxillofacial clinic, 2nd floor of the out-patient building of thehealth institution for further details.
