Ilorin — Special Adviser to Kwara State Governor on Emergency and Relief Service, Alhaji Sulyman Kayode Maja, has disclosed that National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) will train 200 able youths across all the local government councils in the federation to cater for the need of the people in their various communities in the face of emergency.

Maja disclosed this yesterday on the occasion of 2- days workshop for Schools' Disaster Risk Reduction club jointly organized by the North Central Zonal office of NEMA and the State EMA.

He noted that the initiative of the Agency to collaborate with members of the public in the field of disaster management for a purpose-driven approach that will launch an offensive on the challenge of disaster management created the platform for the formation of Grass-root Emergency Volunteers at the community level.

He said that the idea behind the grass-roots volunteers programme was to create a platform where people receive training in basic principles of disaster management and precautionary measures in curtailing the spread of epidemic.

He stressed that the state government will give necessary support to increase succour, adding that attention to the plight of the distressed will also be considered with a view to ameliorating their condition during emergency situation.
