Nigeria: Citizens Do Not Need to Seek Medical Care Abroad- Delsuth Chief

Lagos — Funds used to offset huge medical bills of Nigerians abroad can adequately fund the health sector Dr Seyi Oyesola has said.

Oyesola, Chief Medical Director of Delta state University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), said the country has the equipments and experts to provide such services if funding was available to upgrade them to world standard.

Speaking to newsmen during the commissioning of the hospital, Dr Seyi Oyesola stated that the era of seeking medical care abroad must come to an end saying such funds could be channeled towards improving the quality of services provided at most hospitals.

Oyesola while commending the three-point agenda of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan which according to him are geared at health reform programs, said the Delta state government has already taken the led to improve its health centres.

His words, "this strategically planned and designed tertiary medical institution is solely a Delta State Government initiative geared towards the delivery of quality healthcare service that can be gotten in any part of the world".

On the type of facilities the hospitals has, Oyesola said that each relevant department within the hospital complex has its own operating theatre, fitted with state of the art operating equipment such as operating microscopes, operating tables and high definition cameras and lenses that will beam operations conducted in the hospital to any part of the hospital for training via the Internet connection for study and consulting purposes". .

Other facilities on ground, according to Oyesola include a well equipped Dialysis Centre, Nephrology unit, Endoscopy Centre, fully stocked pharmacy department with the potential to produce compounded medication such as total pareneteral nutrition, 2 Gas plants capable of producing enough Oxygen, Medical Air and other gases for DELSUTH's use and supply to other medical institutions nationwide.

Supporting facilities on the campus include a state of the art auditorium and classroom, school of nursing, administrative Block, a medical laboratory block with a pathology laboratory and biochemistry laboratory.

Other found in the hospital include a histopathology laboratory, microbiology laboratory and chemical pathology laboratory; a Morgue, a fully stocked medical library, an Independent power station with 4 Unit Synchronized 1000 KVA and 500KVA Generators, a well equipped mechanical workshop that will cater for the needs of the hospital's vehicles, a kitchen, a laundry, a water processing/treatment plant, sewage receptacle plant, staff quarters (senior and junior), CMD's residence and two medical students hostels (male And female).
