Eritrea: Mother and Child Mortality Rate Declines By 50 Percent in Afabet and Nacfa Sub-Zones

Afabet — The head of the Health Ministry's branch in the Northern Red Sea region, Mr. Abraham Yemane, said that mother and child mortality rate in Afabet and Nacfa sub-zones has declined by over 50% thanks to the strenuous efforts being made by the people and Government.

Speaking at a meeting held in connection with the control of mother and child mortality rate, he outlined the impressive achievement the nation has registered in the health sector. Mr. Abraham particularly noted the major achievements scored in ensuring mother and child safety.

Indicating that concerted action is being taken to render proper medical service to women in various areas during pre-and post-delivery period, the head of health reproduction in the branch office, Mr. Ephrem Zeb'ai, explained that the Government is doing its level best in nurturing qualified health professionals and supplying the necessary medicines and equipments.

The Administrator of Afabet sub-zone, Mr. Abdu Mohammed Telke, stated on his part that extensive campaign has been undertaken aimed at uprooting backward practices and encouraging pregnant mothers make proper medical checkups during pre-and post-delivery, and thereby reduce mother and child mortality rate.
