Nigerian president Umaru Yar'Adua's health condition is allegedly worsening and reports say the Saudi doctors treating him have begun contemplating on transferring West Africa's most powerful leader to either the United States or Germany.
A little over two years ago, the Nigerian leader was flown to Germany for similar treatment and was discharged a couple of days later after doctors declared him fit to return home and assume his task.
This is the third time that President Yar'Adua is in hospital for an acute pericarditis - an inflammation of the covering of the heart - since he won a troubled election to succeed former President Olusegun Obasanjo nearly three years ago.
Local media today quoted the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where the leader is being treated as saying that Mr Yar'Adua would have to stay in hospital for the next three months.
This report is in sharp contrast to the Nigerian government press statement at the weekend which alleged that Mr Yar'Adua was "responding well to treatment and was watching football matches from his hospital bed."
A media outfit report monitored today quoted the Saudi medical officials of saying that their decision to eventually transfer the ailing president abroad stems from his "body's inability to respond to treatment in the intensive care unit" of the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre.
President Yar'Adua would have to stay longer in hospital "to enable doctors to closely monitor his response to treatment and possibly administer new ones," the report said.
Since nearly a month now, there has been a huge controversy about the exact condition of President Yar'Adua's heart ailment as pandemonium steamed up within the political class over calls for his resignation.
Several leading opposition politicians and lawmakers in the country have been agitating for President Yar'Adua's resignation in order to allow him stay abroad as long as possible for treatment once Vice President Goodluck Jonathan replaces him.
But the country's supreme decision-making body, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has maintained the Vice President in his position while pledging full allegiance to the ailing president.

If this is how the North wants so badly to clinch to power at the expense of the life of President Umaru Yar'Adua then Nigerians should wake up from their slumber.
Think for a moment then you would realize what kind of a danger Nigeria is exposed by the zealous desire of those who will sacrifice Nigeria to remain in the corridor of power. What if Nigeria is attacked by a foreign power in the present dispensation does the VP has the power to mobilize the Nigeria Armed Forces to counter the aggression?
In real world it is possible for the VP to ascend to the call of duty but Nigeria is not a real world and I doubt the Northern establishment would allow Mr. Good luck to act.
Again the best thing for Mr. President and his family and handlers are for this man to resign and take care of his health. Even if his doctors declare him fit to come back the stress on the job is likely to aggravate his problem. It is no repudiation if he resigns it is simply an act of courage and love for him and the nation. Mr. President Nigeria loves and we are praying for you but it time to throw the towel. God Bless Nigeria
I'm very impressed wt the above statement, is as if the person read my mind. I join the rest of nigeria in praying 4 our dear president.
Strange people; Why is everybody asking for prayers for YarÁdua I wish him well.......but I am only praying for NIGERIA to get out of this current mess he and his people created.. Suppose Nigeria is attacked now, do we call the president to decide on what to do?
Our leaders should stop deciving us about the president state of health,He should be taking to any where they think he will get well fast. He also is a human being, that was born of a woman not a super human ,he is bounds to fall sick anytime or to have one health challenge or the other. If some people are not planning to use his ill health for thier evil desire, let them think of what to do on time. In our own closet lets pray for the president health so that poeple will not mock the nation.like the case of pressure mounted on brother SAMUEL in the bible when the Isrealites needed a king,we were able to quench the 3rd term issue of mr xxx He and his collaborators will mock us, if this man should die. I remain alone with JESUS ,not a politician.

Are you not decieving yourself,by saying that the world will mock at us if we dont pray for the president to come back well, so that he will take over his job ?.Are we not mocking at ourselves now, by Yar'adua going away without transfering power to his vice ?.You are seriouly among those I call the real hypocrites of nigerians. If you have nothing to say ,it is better you keep silent.Because the Bible says, when a foolish man keep silent he is considered by many to be a wise man. Yar'adua, raised up his hands and sweared to Almighty God,by taking Oath in the presence of God and the people of Nigeria,to tell the truth, and nothing but the truth,so that he asked God to help him,to run the country for the benefit of the citizens, this is the time , that he supposed to show to the God and the people of Nigeria he has sworned to,by giving the power to the vice, when he is sick, so that the country can not be held to ransom. Are the western world now not laughing at us ? are we not being mocked at now by the outside world already ?.are we not ashamed to be Nigerians ?.Is he not ashamed himself to have gone out of the country for treatment to hospital in Saudi Arabia who have the same oil like us ?. Are we not ashamed to have recieved power from the west as independent country since 1960 and yet we have no hospitals, to treat the president of Nigeria and yet he is meeting a Nigerian as the Head of Dept.in Saudi to treat him ? Are we not ashamed that in Delta state where our oil comes from, have no roads,no hospitals, no water,no electricity no jobs, nothing for the people of Nigeria as a whole like that neither ?..Would you have done thesame thing, if you were to be put into his shooses ?. Are you now not saying that ,his oath to God and Nigerians ,was not false, deceitful, hypocrite, and incorragible lier like him, forgetting that Nigeria is bigger than all of us,and nobody has the right to put the lifes of 170 millions of Nigerians into his own pocket and goaway to a foreign country for treatment ?. I am really very sorry for you, it would have been better if you had thought of it to shut up. Yar'adua should resign with immediate effect now.Though we still pray for his recovery, but that is not to say , that he should hold the country at ransom whenever he is sick.Nigeria is not only for the Northerners, nor for the south,or west,or East, that when you are a president ,and you are sick, you only appointed selected people to power and the rest you refused to,that is is selfishness, and was voted to power by all Nigerians and not only the North. Iam ashamed of Nigerians like you. Yakubu.Magaji Bauchi State.
