Nigeria: Party Men Threaten Court Action Against Kano ANPP

Kano — Over 100 members of the dissolved Publicity Committee of the Kano chapter of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) will drag the party to court over unpaid salaries and allowances of 14 months, spokesman of the group Aminu Gurgu Maifilo has said.

Speaking to our correspondent in Kano yesterday, Maifilo said they have not been paid their entitlements for the over 14 months that they served on the Committee.

He told Daily Trust that since their persistent cries to the party for the release of their entitlements had fallen into deaf ears, their only option is to go to court.

"We have to go to court because we were not attended to for over a year," he said.

According to Maifilo, the party's leadership had promised to pay them N30,000 every month but nothing was paid to them for the period they served in the committee.

Malam Maifilo revealed that apart from the N30,000 monthly salary, each of them was also promised a brand new motorcycle.

He said they were informed that the leadership would soon be dissolved and they now entertain fear that the new exco might not attend to their problem.

When contacted, Kano State secretary of the party Alhaji Rabi'u Bako said no complaint had been received to that effect, stressing that the party would have acted upon proper presentation of their grievances.

He however said that a party committee is usually constituted to achieve some goals, and can be dissolved at the time the objective is accomplished.

Alhaji Bako also said he was not aware of any pledge by the party to pay the sum of N30,000 to members of the committee, saying members who work on such committees have no defined salaries.
